Maana Paper to be Featured at 2019 Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) Conference

Research Explores Symbolic Planning and Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning

MENLO PARK, Calif., January 30, 2019 — Maana, the pioneer of digital knowledge technology, announced its technical paper, “Interpretable and Data-efficient Deep Reinforcement Learning Leveraging Symbolic Planning,” which is an approach for automatically creating computer algorithms that can, for example, play games or build machine learning models, will be featured at the thirty-third annual Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) Conference. The conference will be held from January 27 – February 1, 2019 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The paper, which was co-authored by Maana’s Chief Scientist Dr. Steven Gustafson, Senior Researcher Dr. Fangkai Yang and Auburn University’s Prof. Bo Liu and Daoming Lyu, was one of the few submissions to be accepted for this illustrious conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The paper explores the latest advancement behind the Maana Knowledge Platform™, focusing on the integration of symbolic planning and hierarchical reinforcement learning, which is leveraged to create machine learning models to assist customers using data and analytics in making better decisions. This technology enables an unprecedented degree of interoperability through its enhanced underlying architecture and delivers unique insights through a user-guided, machine-assisted decision-making methodology.

“AAAI is known throughout the industry as a premier platform for showcasing the latest advancements in AI, and we are thrilled to share research on our disruptive technology with the world’s leading AI experts,” said Dr. Steven Gustafson, Chief Scientist. “With less than 20 percent of over 7,000 papers accepted, we view our inclusion as a reflection of the industry’s appetite for a knowledge platform layer that enhances an enterprise’s traditional infrastructure stack and leads to significant financial and operational gains across the value chain.”

The purpose of the AAAI conference is to promote research in AI and scientific exchange among AI researchers, practitioners, scientists, and engineers in affiliated disciplines.
